Mushroom Soup For The Pixelated Soul
Welcome to 2013.
It’s a quicker, faster-paced year, so let’s cut to the chase:
The final volume of the latest Madoka Magica spin-off contains both one of the most depressing outcomes so far, while simultaneously featuring one of the most hopeful. Despite some issues with the way some characters were portrayed and others were used as plot devices, the story still cements the criminally unseen (at least in animated form) relationship between Mami and Kyouko as one of the most endearing in the whole series. I would place it just slightly below Madoka and Sayaka, and appreciate the parallels displayed between the two friendships.
For the sake of sanity, I truly hope the next spin-off takes a lighter tone. You don’t need to have these characters wallow in self-pity and suffering in order to make them engaging. That’s already been proven by the more optimistic fan works.
In any event, get ready for more tears and download the last volume here.
